I would first like to thank both Marc and Dirk for presenting an open and respectful dialogue to the campus community. The forum was a model of the kind of discussion that should happen more often on this campus.

Secondly, I feel as though I must address the comment from Wanda Phillips when she said, "...the Open Doors group are trying to tie all this in with Civil Rights. I have never heard of a gay person being made to sit on the back of a bus." I mean no disrespect to Ms. Phillips, but I feel this comment was quite flawed. Besides often being discriminated against, homosexual people are a prime target for hate crimes. Do you not remember the story of Matthew Shepherd? He, and hundreds of other homosexual people, are brutalized and often killed because of their sexual orientation. How can this not be acknowledged as a Civil Rights issue?

The Open Doors group, from what I understand, seeks to promote open dialogue (like that of Marc and Dirk), and to foster understanding and unity among members of our campus community. Why should anyone deny them this right?
