Steve King - Parent and Missionary
in response to Marc Mullinax

I would like to address Marc's comments, a response to several who have written. First, I'd like to thank you (Marc) for entering into this dialogue. At the same time, your position as a Christian leader/teacher/influencer is to be governed by the Word of God. In this area I feel it appropriate, as another Christian leader/teacher/influencer, to point out that you seem to have parted from God's Word. It seems to me that something other than God's Word and a love for it is influencing you. It may be the times; it may be something someone taught you. I don't know. I do fear that God's Word is not as important to you as that other source or sources of influence. Why do I say this? It seems that you have become selective in your utilization of Scripture to make your decisions and in the expression of your opinions about this issue. As a leader/teacher/influencer in the Christian community you have a high responsibility that bears reexamination.

As to whether homosexuality is a sin, you could help us in this discussion by giving an exposition of the following Scripture found in Romans 1:24-27, taken from the American Standard Version and not much different from any other reliable version of the Bible):

"Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves: (Rom 1:24) for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (Rom 1:25) For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature: (Rom 1:26) and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due. (Rom 1:27)

As you review this text from the Bible and address it, I would point out that Scripture seems to be giving definition to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable; what is responsible and what is irresponsible when it comes to sexuality. If I understand this part of the Word of God, homosexuality is not a responsible response to God's desire for our lives. Your counsel that homosexuality is acceptable seems to be a case of a Christian leader giving advice which is contrary to the Word of God. Can any Christian leader justify such a thing? You see this is as much about personal obedience to the Lord and His Word as it is about love or compassion. Interestingly, Jesus says that if you love me you will obey my commands (John 15:10).

Finally, in reference to sin, any sin, we find Jesus saying (John 8:11) "Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more." Would this not be the biblical response to sin of any kind, whether it be the sin of stealing or the sin of homosexuality? I would prefer to hear Christians saying, "I love you and I don't condemn you, but what you are doing is wrong and there is One who will judge you. Here is what the Scripture says. Because I love you I refuse to water down what the Word of God says, please turn from your sin. How can I help you accomplish this?"

May the Lord bless all the readers of this response, OPINIONS
