Firstly I'd like to point out that I wear the pink wristband very proudly and I'm certainly not ashamed of that or of my belief that Open Doors has a right to be recognized by SGA and the college.

Certain individuals on this campus are concerned about negative media attention and a drop in funding from our more conservative constituents. I offer you this very real warning. If this group is disallowed their fundamental right to organize and meet, the media attention will grow exponentially worse and a result of that, expect funding to drop accordingly.

People disagree with Open Doors for religious, political, homophobia, and fiscal reasons. That's fine. But by taking action to block this group's formation you are trampling on an American constitutional right.

With that said, as a member of Young Democrats, I voted in SGA to allow the College Republicans to be recognized as an organization on campus. I disagree with them on nearly every level, but they had a right to organize, meet, and vote. So I voted yes.

As a member of the College Republicans, Wes and his crew will get one vote to allow or disallow Open Doors. I challenge them and any other group that has received votes of acceptance from firm disbelievers of their cause to vote maturely. To vote yes.

As Lillian Hellman wrote, "Since when do you have to agree with people to defend them from injustice?"

Thanks for your consideration.
