Ugh, I hate to hear this story.....
And I also hate to say this (who does enjoy "I told you so's").
Remember students - virtually ALL internet posts can be viewed by everyone. Yes, the internet is a large place - full of seething opinion, but yours CAN get noticed with just a little web-searching. Another thing to remember: Just because Facebook is password protected, and requires an ".edu" email address - that does not ensure your privacy.
Almost ANY alumni (from any college) can obtain an "edu" email address and join Facebook. I have a fear that many of these posts you folks make will keep you from getting jobs once you graduate.
I have seen (and photographed) you studying, making it to classes, socializing, eating and enjoying your college years here at MHC, and it hurts me to think that an off-handed comment, or posting on the internet can ruin opportunities for your futures.
Finally, you should know that there are several websites which exist only to archive other internet sites. These include www.archive.org, www.images.google.com and many others. They save copies of postings and images and share them with anyone who requests them – for free.
Please try to be cool when you post online. Post respectfully, write intelligently and don't be afraid to raise issues and give your opinions - but above all else: Remember the internet is part of your "permanent record" in life. These words (and pictures) will be around a lot longer than you wish they were.
Respectfully,
Andy Mrozkowski
