Big Texas' Opinion:

Since my former radio sidekick expressed his opinion I thought I might go ahead and give mine a go.

I have been on the road for about 5 months now travelling all over the country and meeting all kinds of new people and the one thing that I have picked up from all corners of this nation is that people just want to be loved. They look for it from their parents, peers, coworkers, spouses, kids, and friends. I believe that everyone is worthy of love. And that seems to be the underlying message of a group like Open Doors...they want to be loved and accepted for who they are.

This is where I disagree with their forming of a sanctioned group. As others have noted they are already meeting and they even have members. So why do they need to be recognized? It seems like a political move. When a student comes to Mars Hill they know that it is a school rooted in the conservative Baptist tradition.

Much the same way that you would not go to a Catholic college and argue to have "The Morning After Pill" ditributed at the school infirmary, there should be no movement toward having this group on Mars Hill's campus.

I believe that it is every person's right to decide for themselves what they believe on this issue.

The Open Doors group has been asking people to vote ues as a matter of principle. Well I too implore the people to vote on priniciple.

The principle that it is okay to believe that homosexuality is wrong and a sin, just as it is okay to believe that a group like Open Doors should be on campus.

Do not be bullied into voting in favor of something that you do not agree with simply because you will be painted as a discriminator.

Big Texas

(Man I wish Dr. K and I could be on the radio debating this today!)
