As long as we argue about this issue in the manner we are arguing about it we will be ignoring our sense of community. That is what Mars Hill is made of, and it is hard not to want to force opinions on others. When it all boils down though, people like to form their own opinions, as they should and have every right to do.
But I urge us all, me included, not to hate anyone for their opinion, not to attack any opinion. Simply present your own, take in others and evaluate and compare yours to theirs and to others. No need for Kumbya to be sung, but do realize that everyone is far from being perfectly correct all the time. In some ways it would be nice to have a club who respects and appreciates its seat in SGA, as many clubs I have been in have not. Also SGA is a government, a democracy if you will.
In that light it is safe to say that the more interest groups that are represented in SGA the better the picture of the campus SGA is governing. Like it or not, these students exist, as do other groups not within the social norm. Should these groups be represented, though is a complex question. Unfortunately I do no have all the answers.
My final advice is to take in what Mrs. Shaw-Hartman thinks, and what Dr. Koziuk says, then doubt, if only for a second, your thoughts on the issue, be willing to discuss the tough issues and continue the Mars Hill tradition that I have seen in these times: community.
