As an alumna who is still actively interested in the college, I would have to strongly disagree with the assertion that alumni will withdraw their funding from the school. I personally would be much more likely to donate to a school that showed God's love and acceptance than one that squabbles over petty differences.

The organization is not REQUIRING students to join, but they are giving students an option. To do otherwise would be like disavowing Greek fraternities and sororities because they are based on a polytheistic culture. In my opinion, Mars Hill is declining because it is not progressive enough. If the school really wanted to be more conservative they would have chosen the conservative presidential nominee a few years back.

In closing, I do not believe that one group of people should have all the rights while oppressing everyone else. Mars Hill is a Christian-based college but that does not necessarily mean conservative. There are many of us Christian Liberals in the world and EVERYONE's voice should be heard. Not just the one's that are pleasant to us.
