Mark Norwood
Grounds Chief Pushes Recycling
"Bet you didn't think you would see someone doing this today," said Mark Norwood as he dumped about 25 pounds of trash onto the ground. Norwood, supervisor of grounds for Mars Hill College, was standing in front of Marshbanks with bags of refuse he had collected from various campus buildings. As he spoke, he stuck his latex covered-hands into the bags and was continually pulling out garbage that really, was not garbage.
Pop Cans Pay
When you walk by a trash barrel that is full of soda cans, consider that you might be passing a profitable opportunity. If you recycled the cans from one case of soda every week for one year you would make about $36.40.

The Loft on Club Night
Club Night Comes to "The Loft"
From the outside of McConnell Hall you might see a really old building with doors that look like they are ready to come off the hinges. Even after you walk in, the first two steps seem as if they are caving in. But McConnell isn't just an 82-year-old relic. It is also the home of The Loft, a space where students can get together and mingle. For the last few months some students have been trying to set up "Club Night" in The Loft.

Quills: Inspiring Writers
As Matt Finch puts it, "It's an opportunity to share work with people my own age who care about writing as much as I do." Every Friday at 4 p.m., tucked away in Timberline, Mars Hill College's own writing society meets. Sitting around a circle on the couches and chairs, students gather to share and get feedback about their writings. One by one, each student reads aloud what he or she brought along to share, followed by an open discussion of reactions, including praise and constructive criticism.

Cyclists Gear up for Spring Racing
When talking about cycling, Grant Gosch's eyes light up. He is trying to assemble a Mars Hill co-ed cycling team before spring and is very interested in getting students attracted to cycling. "It's a life sport," he says. He uses football as an example, "You can't play football forever…. At some point you have to be more gentle on your body while remaining active, and cycling is a great medium to do just that."

What is a Chaplain, and Why Should You Care?
A plaque behind Todd Boling's desk reads, "Chaplain - (n.) one who cares for others." Boling, new campus chaplain at Mars Hill College, says that for him that means "being a part of different organizations on campus, and being here for students that need to talk and praying for them."
You will see this blonde-haired 29-year-old cheering at soccer games, worshipping at the Refuge and Christian Student Movement, and joking around with students in the cafeteria.

Lion Baseball Player Makes His Pitch for the Pros
About one thousand young baseball players get picked in the Major League Draft each summer. That number doesn't seem so big when you realize that each year more than 3 million young players across the country have hopes of getting drafted. At least one player here at Mars Hill College has reason to believe that his hard work may well pay off. Nicholas Andrew Tracy, a senior from Herndon, Virginia, has been looked at by pro scouts on more than one occasion.
