Although the weatherman predicted snow flurries, the flowers are blooming. The trees are getting their leaves back. Finals are quickly approaching. These are all signs that it's time for the campus to come alive for the annual Spring Fling, sponsored by the Campus Activity Board.
Several activities will be held on campus throughout the week of April 12-17. The Campus Activity Board has worked hard to set everything up, and has budgeted around $4,000 for this year's events.
"It is always hard to satisfy everyone on campus, but I expect a good turnout and positive feedback from students and faculty this year about Spring Fling as a whole," said Aaron Slate, a student member of CAB.
- On Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., a variety of outdoor activities will be going on in the quad. Students will have a chance to put on large padded sumo costumes and take turns sumo wrestling each other. Students can also try to make it to the top of a large Velcro Wall, which will be towering over the quad on Tuesday. These are just two examples of the many outdoor games students can participate in. (Rain location is first floor of Wren).
- On Wednesday, free concessions will be set up around the athletic fields for the softball game that starts at 2 p.m.and the baseball game that begins at 3 p.m. A jazz band will perform at the cafeteria amphitheatre from 5-7 p.m.
- On Thursday, the Avett Brothers, a well known and popular blue grass band, will perform at the cafeteria amphitheatre from 5-7 p.m. An air brush tattoo station, a "make your own bumper sticker" station, and a wax hand station will be set up inside and outside of the cafeteria that evening.
- Spring Fling closes with the Spring Formal on Saturday at the Grove Park Inn, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
"Expectations for Spring Fling are always high. Spring Fling is one of the more attended events that CAB offers during the semester because of the variety of activities to enjoy and partake in," said Slate.
"The Avett Brothers concert is expected to be very well received, and many people on campus have expressed interest in wanting to hear them play at Mars Hill." CAB is very excited about the Spring Fling this year and hopes that all students will come out and enjoy the festivities they have arranged.
CAB has displayed a huge sign in the windows of Redway as you walk towards the cafeteria. Another sign is outside Wren Student Union. Frequent e-mails have and will continue to be sent out. CAB also depends a great deal on word of mouth to help spread what's going on on campus. "We just really hope that students come out and see what's going on.. We feel that everyone can find something that they will enjoy this year."
