"Feeling Good" - Cloggers Roll Out Their Spring Extravaganza
by Sally Carswell

The 14-time National Champion Bailey Mountain Cloggers are staging their annual spring concert on April 4-6 in Moore Auditorium. The theme this year is "Feelin' Good".

"Feelin' Good" examines the hardships of violence, racism, and hatred we deal with everyday in our society through dance. "No matter who you are or where you come from, everyone can be brought together through dance," said BMC freshman Kathryn Buice.

The first half of the program is strictly classic clogging, while the second half is more contemporary dance. The Bailey Mountain Cloggers have invited several alumni as well as the Mars Hill Dance team to participate in "Feelin' Good".

This year's clogging concert will feature freshman clogger Blake Sanders, a jazz/lyrical/hip hop dancer and choreographer. Blake has been dancing for eight years and has won numerous awards, such as the National Mr. Teen Superstar at Starsystems Talent Competition. He has auditioned for Celine Dion's A New Day show in Las Vegas. He plans to audition for "So You Think You Can Dance" this summer.

The Bailey Mountain Cloggers are directed by Danielle Buice. She is a 2006 graduate of Mars Hill College, where she majored in fashion, and was an active member of Delta Zeta National Sorority. She will be getting married in April to her college sweetheart.

The members of BMC have been preparing for "Feelin' Good" for a very long time. The week before the concert has been fondly named "Hell Week" by the cloggers. All their time not spent in class is spent preparing for the concert. They practice for at least 5 hours a day prior to the concert.
